About Prison Fellowship International
Prison Fellowship International is the world’s most extensive network of Christian ministries working in the criminal justice field. On a mission to transform the lives of prisoners, their families and victims through its global network of ministry partners, Prison Fellowship International works to break the cycle of crime, worldwide, through Jesus’ love. Prison Fellowship International was founded by Chuck Colson, former aide to U.S. President Richard Nixon, who served seven months in a federal prison camp for a Watergate-related offense. There, he became convinced the real solution to crime is found through spiritual renewal. This belief went from an idea to a global movement through the creation of Prison Fellowship International. With ministry partners in more than 120 countries across six continents, Prison Fellowship International’s multi-denominational, indigenously-led, autonomous National Ministries facilitate and provide powerful programming to prisoners and their families in culturally relevant ways. Nearly 53,000 local volunteers serve these populations annually. In-prison programming is one of the ways that Prison Fellowship International transforms the lives of prisoners. Millions of incarcerated individuals have encountered the Good News of the Gospel through this programming. In a holistic approach to break the cycle of crime, Prison Fellowship International also provides critical support to children and family of prisoners. Crucial interventions such as education assistance, mentoring and Scripture resource engagement, set children of prisoners and families on a path for a brighter future.
