Happy Hands Education Center
About Happy Hands Education Center
Happy Hands Education Center's mission is to empower children who are deaf and hard of hearing to flourish. We do this by educating children, nurturing families, and building hope! The Deaf community is the second most spiritually unreached people group worldwide due to their lack of access to language. Happy Hands is working to change that! At Happy Hands we give deaf and hard of hearing children the early intervention and access to language that is needed to understand and learn about Jesus. We strive to teach about God and the Bible through everything that we do! Our teachers sing and SIGN Bible songs with them, teach Bible stories, and pray together. We also have a weekly Children’s Chapel where all our children learn to memorize Bible verses to the beat of a drum as well as have a topical Bible lesson. The ministry of Happy Hands extends beyond just our children but also encompasses their families. Learning that your child is deaf or hard of hearing can be extremely difficult for families as most have no history or experience with deafness. We come alongside families to show them the great opportunities available to their child while also showing them the love of Christ and praying with them and their families. We work to support the family unit as a whole both spiritually and with resources. In our 30+ years of serving children and families we have seen numerous families come to know Christ as their Lord and Savior through our ministry. Happy Hands is the only full-time Christian organization in Oklahoma specifically dedicated to meeting the needs of disabled children who are deaf or hard of hearing, from infancy through 5th grade. Children who are deaf, hard of hearing, or with communication disorders are at high risk of falling behind developmentally and socially in the first few weeks and years of their life. We provide the early intervention that is necessary to break the cycle of illiteracy and enable our students to be adults who are contributing members of society, free from government support, who can fulfill their dreams. We are excited to have added an elementary (K-5th grade) class of Deaf students who were unable to find the education services needed in their first language, American Sign Language (ASL). To our knowledge, Deaf Christian Academy at Happy Hands is the ONLY Christian school for the deaf nationwide! We pray that changes and more Deaf students will have access to Christian education. In recent years we have started to see families move from out of state and relocate to Oklahoma solely so that their deaf or hard of hearing child/children can receive the specialized education that they need to be successful. We are now serving families who have moved from Ohio, Nebraska, and Oregon to provide a quality education for their child. Our program is one of a kind, nationwide, and we are striving to serve as many children and families in need as we can.
