Durham Rescue Mission
About Durham Rescue Mission
Founded in November 1974, the Durham Rescue Mission is the oldest and largest shelter provider in Durham, North Carolina, offering a hand up - not a hand out to those in need. Our Vision is that together, we can strive for everyone in the Triangle to have a home both on earth and in heaven. Our Mission is that together, through the power of Jesus Christ, we will meet the needs of the whole person spiritual, educational, emotional, physical, vocational, and social so that those who are hurting may become fully functional members of society. The mission provides food, clothing, housing, job training, GED and computer classes, Biblical counseling, assistance to medical services including dental and vision, and a host of other services for men, women and children who are homeless or in need of assistance.
What “Highly Trusted” Means
Highly Trusted reflects a ministry's commitment to operating transparently and accountably beyond Christian-specific stewardship standards alone. This ministry has been verified against fourteen of fifteen criteria of The Most Trusted Standard — demonstrating biblical financial integrity, sound governance, and a complete framework of governance policies.
What distinguishes Highly Trusted is the additional commitment to public transparency. This ministry has made its financial records, governance information, and program reporting accessible to the public, putting its operations in the open where any donor can examine them.
